What is Hospice?
Hospice is a compassionate, patient and caregiver-centered approach to medical care and support at the end of life. Hospice recognizes that every person’s experience will be different and focuses on maintaining the patient’s dignity, increasing quality of life, and providing comfort, including pain and symptom control.
Mission
It is the mission of hospice staff to walk side-by-side with patients and offer care and support, not only for physical symptoms but for emotional and spiritual needs as well. This support extends to family members and caregivers as hospice helps them cope with their own unique emotional and spiritual concerns.
Guiding Philosophy
The LECOM Health Visiting Nurse Association of Erie County is a voluntary non-profit organization founded in 1906 to meet the home health care needs of our community. Since that time, our beliefs, ethical practices, and values have guided us. We remain sensitive to the needs of our patients, staff, community, and associated care providers.
Significance of Butterflies and Death
It is a common belief by many people worldwide that the appearance of butterflies is a message beyond death from a loved one. Shortly after losing a loved one, it is a beautiful sign that the spirit of your loved one lives on. It is not by chance that people report having mystical and spiritual interactions with butterflies. The butterfly is generally recognized as a symbol of rebirth or resurrection due to its metamorphosis process from caterpillar to butterfly.
